Gayle MacDonald, M.S., L.M.T., is the author of Medicine Hands: Massage Therapy for People with Cancer (Findhorn Press) and Massage for the Hospital Patient and Medically Frail Client (Lippincott Williams and Wilkin.)  Her expertise comes from more than 10 years of work with oncology patients at Oregon Health and Science University.  She has also supervised massage students and therapists on the oncology unit, in chemo infusion, radiation oncology, and the bone marrow transplant unit. Jamie Elswick, LMT, NCBTMB, has been a massage therapist for the last 11 years. Her work has included scar tissue and lymphatic work for post treatment cancer patients as well as comfort based massage for those currently in treatment. She has been involved in massage therapy education since 1994. At the present time she teaches anatomy and physiology as well as advanced structural work for the massage therapy program at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Projects that are currently underway are a volunteer program through Providence Health Care Systems working with oncology patients as well a semester long oncology massage course through the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Isabel Adkins is the director and supervisor of the Oncology Massage Program at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Nevada City, CA.She is certified in Ayurvedic massage, reflexology, shiatsu, and acupressure. For therapists looking for a more Eastern approach to working with cancer patients, Isabel is a great resource. Her courses are 5-days in length. Part 1 of her course is Massage for People Living with Cancer followed by Part 2, Blending East with West. The two components comprise a course entitled Oncology Massage I. Liz Davidson, M.S.,L.M.T., practices hospital and hospice massage in Portland, OR, where she has worked with oncology clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. At Oregon Health Science University she teaches a 10 week hospital class entitled “Massage in the Hospital Setting: Oncology Rotation” that was developed by Gayle MacDonald. Liz also assists Gayle in the 5-day intensive class at OHSU. She has a B.S. in biology from Oregon State University, a M.S. in physiology from UC San Diego, and a M.A. in education from Stanford University. She has taught biology and chemistry to high school students, and anatomy and physiology to community college and massage students. Tina Ferner, LMT, RD, is the coordinator of the integrative therapy department at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. She developed this program which provides massage, healing touch, reiki, and guided imagery to all cancer inpatients as well as radiation and chemotherapy outpatients. She is a registered dietitian, massage therapist, reiki master, healing touch practitioner, and certified in hypnotherapy. She has over 12 years of experience working with oncology patients."
